Psychodynamic Counsellor & Psychotherapist
Chandra Edward
What I specialise in
Work-related difficulties
I offer a space to explore the root of your difficulties at work that are making you anxious or distressed.
Depression
I support people whose mood feels low, lack interest or joy in anything with a sense of numbness or deep sadness
Self-esteem & confidence
I work with people who view themselves negatively and often doubt, criticise and blame or hate themselves.
About me
I have worked in the mental health space as a psychodynamic psychotherapist for several years. Previously, I worked in the corporate world before retraining to become a therapist. I aim to support and enable my clients to live life more freely and fully. I have worked for mental health charities, community counselling services, an EAP service and in private practice. This has allowed me to support people from all walks of life with a wide range of issues. I work with individuals aged 18 and over.
Qualifications and experience
I am an experienced Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychotherapist registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I have an MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling & Psychotherapy, a BSc (Honours) in Psychology and a Certificate in Counselling.
Through my private practice, employment and volunteering work to date, I have supported clients with short-term interventions as well as long-term work to address underlying psychic issues impacting their wellbeing. My clients have presented with a wide range of challenges including depression, work-related stress, anxiety, bereavement, low self-esteem, family issues, bullying, unclear life goals, suicidal ideation and disordered eating. I volunteered for Samaritans for over 6 years and with Shout during the pandemic. I have recently started volunteering with a charity that supports those struggling with addiction.
I maintain regular and ongoing professional development and supervision in accordance with BACP regulations. This enables me to integrate the latest thinking and research into my clinical work. Recent CPD courses include being a Trauma-wise practitioner and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
What I offer
I offer weekly therapy sessions of 50 minutes where we can explore what brought you to seek therapy. I provide a calm, reflective, confidential, non-judgemental and empathetic space for you to process your experiences at a pace that is safe for you. Based on what we are working on, we can agree an initial timeframe and review it periodically as we progress the work.
Alongside in-person counselling in Wokingham, I also offer online therapy and telephone counselling across Berkshire and beyond.
Approach and orientation
My approach is based predominantly on the psychodynamic psychotherapy modality, focusing on understanding the deeper emotional and relational patterns that shape how we think, feel, behave and relate to others. By exploring how past experiences have shaped our inner world, we uncover patterns that influence both our past and present. These insights enable us to make changes to live more authentically and develop more meaningful ways of relating to others and responding to life events.
